Home Worship Ministries & Groups Church Library About St Luke Church Contact

We are a gathering of people of all ages who believe and love Jesus Christ, God's only Son. Together we worship our living God, learn and grown in our Christian faith, enjoy one other's company, and, most of all, share God's love with visitors, friends, and our community.

Saint Luke is part of a national Church called The Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod [LC-MS]. We are a member congregation of the"Eastern District" of the LCMS. This two and one half million plus member denomination was organized in the state of Missouri in 1847. The purpose of the Synod is to promote and conserve the unity of the faith, and was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1894

The History of St. Luke Lutheran Church

St. Luke congregation was established in 1945 in the Town of Cheektowaga, a suburb of Buffalo. "Cheektowaga" is an Iroquois Indian word meaning "land of the crabapples". We are part of the Western New York Lutheran community. Since its beginnings, St. Luke has been blessed in many ways and has been a blessing through many tasks done to the glory of God.

Value Statement

Value Statements are important for a congregation. They are stated and written principles which express our common concerns and strengths as a congregation. We have nine core values as a congregation.

THE GOSPEL

(Forgiveness of sins and the gift of peace for all people): is at the center of what we value even as God is at the center of who we are. This was accomplished when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead. This same Gospel is shared when we preach, teach, care for one another, have fellowship, meet and worship together. It is God's gift that binds us in commitment and service. It has been our strength in the past and most definitely is our hope for the future. See Romans 1:16-17; John 3:16

LEARNING:

Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching, preaching, and healing. We believe we must carry on teaching the true word of our Lord, Jesus Christ to young and old alike. Learning is an essential ministry to understand the importance of God's Word and to live that word in our lives. Through the Lord we have learned that we are never alone. See 2 Timothy 3:10, 14-15

WORSHIP:

We value worship because it give us the ability to spiritually edify, instruct, and strengthen people with the Word. Worship allows us to receive and communicate the message of God with clarity and a persuasive power. In worship we share the mystery of our faith, in the presence of our fellowship with God. See John 8:12 and Ephesians 4:13&15

SERVICE:

We believe that God has called us to be servants. He gives us gifts so that we can strengthen and administer His church and share His love, who first loved us. See Romans 12:4-8

CARING:

As God's people we are bound to be compassionate, loving and understanding of all people. God has touched our lives in many ways. With all our hearts and minds we seek to be unselfish. See Luke 12:27, 33-37

ACCEPTANCE:

We believe that we are commanded by God "to love all people" and that we are all God's children. We are an inclusive community and welcome all, regardless of age, marital status, racial or ethnic background. See Acts 2:46-47

FELLOWSHIP:

God has created us to be together. We are created not to be alone. Here you will find the bonds of friendship and the warmth of family. Together in fellowship and as partners with Christ we encourage each other in joy. See Ephesians 4:1-3 & Proverbs 16:4

YOUTH:

Children are a gift of God for us to nurture in a Christ centered way. The youth represent the growth of the Christian community. We encourage them to mature as ministers of Christ. See 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

OUTREACH:

The Gospel is the "good seed" that when sown in "good soil" produces a harvest of faithful people. For the love of Christ and following His example we know that the "Good News" and His grace is not only for us, but for everyone. The witnessing and sharing through word and deed, supported by the Holy Spirit is the life blood of this congregation. See Matthew 28:19-20
